Scherrel was travel nursing in Texas and we were all missing our annual trip to St George Island so she invited Becky and I to come down and visit. We were going to camp all weekend on Crystal Beach where Scherrel assured us they had restroom facilities. WRONG. Plan was to relax and sip wine on the beach. Well it didnt turn out quite as planned. First the wind was howling at 50 miles a hour and we had to tie the tent out to keep it from collapsing. Then we had to get behind the tent with scherrel trying to pull coolers in to form a wind block to light the grill. We had sand in our teeth, sand in our food, and no corkscrew for the wine! We had helped a family set up their tent and Scherrel was going to sleep in it to protect it until they returned the next day. It blew down on her and we found her on her cot outside in the wind. Needless to say we pulled up stakes after one night and headed to Kemah. Still it one of the best memories, surviving the night in the wind storm on Crystal Beach with my friends. What else do you need but a friend and Scherrel was a fine one.

St. George Island will never be the same. So many memories.
