Obituary for Carol Sharum (Howell)

Carol  Sharum (Howell)
Carol Ann Howell Sharum, 71, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on February 18, 2018 at Covington Court Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on June 8, 1946 in Newport News, VA to the late Woodrow Wilson Howell Sr. and the former Ada Dell Pennington. She graduated from Fort Smith Northside High School in 1964 and was crowned Miss Fort Smith in 1964. She was a homemaker until her children were grown, graduated first in her class from UAFS with an associate’s degree in Legal Sciences in 1994, and afterwards became a Paralegal at ABF Freight. She was active in local civic and charitable institutions, serving as a sustaining member of the Junior Auxiliary and as an executive director for The March of Dimes. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be 2:00PM Friday, February 23, 2018 at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith, with private burial to follow in Oak Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Moore and her husband Rodney of Little Rock, AR; two sons, Robert Sharum and his wife Debbie of Midland, TX and Randy Sharum and his wife Ann of Sugar Land, TX; two brothers, John Howell of Greenwood, AR and William “Bill” Howell of Pocola, OK and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Woodrow “Woody” Howell, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes, Arkansas State Chapter P.O. Box 251212, Little Rock, AR 72225
