Obituary for Douglas Eugene Lowrey

Douglas Eugene Lowrey
Douglas Eugene Lowrey (LuLu) was indeed “Larger than Life”. A college football national champion, Kodak All-American, a National Champion Powerlifter, a business owner for 40 years, softball player and sponsor, all made others see him that way. But what made him truly “larger than life” was how he loved God and loved people. A tireless worker, present father, providing husband, giving stranger, and friend to anyone he crossed paths with. His early passions were busting heads and pumping iron. As God began to change his focus he spent much of his time working with the FCA, preaching the gospel to kids and prison ministry. In his later years, smoking BBQ, for those in need, refereeing football and loving his grandkids became important. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burrell and Georgia Lou (Kincannon) Lowrey.

A family held memorial service and celebration of his life will be at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Community Bible Church at 9201 Dallas Street, Fort Smith with arrangements and cremation under Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.

He is survived by his wife, Georgeanne (Stump) Lowrey of the home; one daughter, Laura Derden and husband, Daniel of Conway; two sons, Michael Lowrey and wife, Becky of Fort Smith, Stephen Lowrey and wife, Aimee of Austin, Texas; one brother, Sam Lowrey of Fort Smith; five grandchildren, Riley, Karson and Zoey Lowrey, Madison and Luke Derden.

The family will visit with relatives and friends at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Community Bible Church at 9201 Dallas Street, Fort Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Lowrey, Tim Hazelwood, Mike Gillooley, Walter Plummer, Mike Beebe, Ronnie Gilmore, Dan Mullen, Scott Foster, Rick Tinder, James Azbell, Rob Jolliff and Leon Sparks.
