Obituary for Melvin Farrar

Melvin  Farrar
Melvin Farrar, 89, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017 in a local hospital. He was born on November 8, 1927 in Rock Island, Oklahoma to Fred and Ruby (Smith) Farrar. He was the owner and operator of Rogers Ave. Barber Shop. Melvin was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of First Baptist Church. He was appointed as the Labor Commissioner for Workers Compensation for the State of Arkansas for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Farrar and one sister, Betty Wheaton.
Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Monday, October 16, 2017 at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, Arkansas with burial to follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Greenwood, Arkansas.
He is survived by two daughters, Sherry Cole and her husband Dennis and Sondra Farrar both of Fort Smith, AR; two grandsons, Barry Cole of Yukon, Oklahoma and Chris Pruitt and his wife Nesti of Alexandria, LA; two great grandchildren, Kayden and Kenzie Pruitt and his special Friend, Christy Lou Stipe of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Pallbearers are Barry Cole, Chris Pruitt, Dennis Cole and Steve Lensing.
The family will visit with friends from 2-4PM on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, AR.
